After three days sightseeing in Seattle, and an early morning trip to escort Julie to her flight home, my journey is about to start. I’ll be hopping the Ferry to Orcas Island this afternoon, and the paddling starts tomorrow. The plan is to launch at North Beach and paddle across to Pender Island where I’ll clear Canadian Customs. I’ll probably camp on Pender. Then start to make my way up the east coast of Vancouver. The plan is to average 25 miles per day. My plan for the next 5 days just about hits that average. Weather and other conditions permitting, I’ll be nearing Seymour Narrows in about a week. It’s a tricky passage that will require timing to get through. The currents at max flood will be close to 10 knots. I don’t want to get too far ahead. There are many great experiences between now and then. And of course many great experiences to follow.

My posts will be dictated by availability of WIFI and the limits of my Iphone, but I'll try to post updates as I can. Thanks to all who have provided support and encouragement as I prepared for this expedition, Shawna, Leon, Russell, Jean, Ken, Gil, Rich, all the Trekker gang, Kat, Doreen, all the old gang, and of course my lovely wife Julie. Without her love and support none of this would be possible.
